Filming for my Music Video

Image
I started filming for my Music Video on November 21st. My friend who I used in the video arrived to set at around 3:00. I arrived at around 2:50. We didn’t start filming until 4:30. The actually filming took around about 20 minutes. I was surprised because I expected it to take about an hour. However, to my surprise we finished early. Once I got home I started editing right away. I didn’t edit much because I lost mojo. After that I spent the rest of my Thanksgiving break just resting and starting my first ever job! I made sure to record enough footage that I could work with. I even filmed a little extra that wasn’t on my storyboard. The majority follows my original plan though. I actually expected to not filming throughout my Thanksgiving break. However, plans change.  If I did wait to film I feel as if the outcome would have been different. Not in a good or bad way. Just different.  I am excited to finish my editing and have the music video complete. So far, this project has been a g

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

First Scene- This first scene common is just of the logo "7 Rings". This lets the audience know what song it is and starts to bring them into the already existing world.  Second Scene-  The second scene is of a black car pulling up. The car parks and stays for a while.  Third Scene- Next, the scene shows a person stepping out of the car. They look lost and out of place with the preexisting world. This introduces the main actor in the music video. Fourth Scene- This scene uses a close-up on the person's face to fully show the audience the person's expressions. Fifth Scene- Then, in this scene we see the person walking up to a door being very hesitant to put then opening it to walk in. This is an allusion is "Alice in Wonderland" when Alice faces many curious and confusing challenges. Sixth Scene-  Furthermore, we see the person starting to walk down a hallway. They're looking from side to side, up and down. The watchers see the person fully scanning the

Planning for my music video

Props For my music video, I've decided to use a few different props. The first prop will be a car. Then I will use a big desk and a singular comfy roller chair. Costumes I will have multiple people in the music video. However, the main subject will two outfits. The first will be ordinary clothes such as some black leggings and a plain t-shirt. Next, there will be a quick change and they will then be in a bright pink crop top and jeans. Those in the background will wear outfits to complement the main subject. Such as jeans and a blacktop. The makeup will be natural as I want the main focus to be on the costumes. Schedule On 11/16/20, I will research the convention of my music video. On 11/17/20, I will establish the props, costumes, schedule, set, location, and a back plan. On 11/19/20, I will create a storyboard for my one-minute music video. On 11/20/20, I will start filming for my music video and recording the necessary shots. Set  I will use the hallway, office, and desk. Locati

Research blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
I've decided to film my music video for the song "7 rings" by Ariana Grande. This song falls under the Pop genre of music. Some common conventions in this genre are fashionable/ stylish mainstream outfits, bright vibrant colors, and positive vibes. Pop music videos often follow a storyline from start to finish and have some sort of plot to them. Sterotipcally pop music videos contain people in their teens and have a youthful feeling. For example, a party or dance event. The costumes include a signature piece and style that isn't typically worn in day to day life. Such as a fluffy coat or metallic thigh-high boots Hair and makeup play a big role in pop music videos. The hair is usually in a trendy style and the makeup is dramatic and matte. Additionally, pop music videos are heavily edited. Creative transitions that connect each shot; ink, wipe, and certain effects. Also, inverted and two-sided screens are common editing effects.  Dance is heavily infused in pop musi

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
I am so excited to start this new project. I love being creative so this allows me to think beyond my wildest dreams. Making a music video has been a task I’ve wanted to do for a long time now. So, this project is perfect.  I’ve decided to work by myself for this project. I feel as if I can be at my most creative state when working alone. However, for the filming portion I will have some friends be in the actual video. I can be in full control and make my imagination come to life.  I chose the song “7 rings” by Ariana Grande. I wanted a very upbeat song that I could easily use one minute of. Also, I made sure that the song I chose would be able to tell a story. I want the audience to feel line they’re being taken into this new world and experience it with the main actor in the video. It will have a “Alice in Wonderland” when she first gets to Wonderland feel. The feelings of confusion yet intriguing energy will be present.  High angles, close-ups, and low shots etc. will be greatly in

My Creative critical reflection

  1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represents social groups or issues?      My product uses convention in a variety of ways. Conventions used in makeup, commercials are commonly bur not little to are vanities, studio lighting , beauty sponges, and models. With my product, I used all four of those things.      I used my vanity as a simple prop, the beauty sponge as my main product, great lighting to keep the video well lit, and a model which was myself to hold and showcase the product. This represents the social group of the beauty community through its use of Logos. Throughout my commercial, I use academic diction that is well known by those of the makeup communit. I also use logic and facts that pertain to them as well.   2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? My product engages with the audience by adding sources on where they can buy the makeup sponge. For example, towards the end o

My Commercial

My commercial is finally done. Looking back at it I do see some things I could have improved on. However, being that this was my first ever project like this, I feel as if I did my best. I am astonished at the amazing quality I brought to the commercial. Each shot looked so high resolution and professional. My voiceover came out better than I expected and the background music motivated my commercial in the best way possible. I made sure to have the proper conventions typically in makeup commercials. I kept all my transitions neat and not choppy. I made sure that they were needed and not excessive. In such a short amount of time, I greatly improved my production skills. I can easily point out different camera angles and movements begin used. Also, I could easily analyze what CLAMPS was needed in my commercial. All in all, I am extremely proud of myself. Working from the ground up it is truly amazing to see my final project. Once I showed it to my Mom for her feedback I felt even more co

Editing my commercial: Getting it perfect

Image
After filming all the scenes needed I began the editing process. I had to make sure everything was perfect. First, I dumped all my footage onto my computer and imported it into my editing software. I used the application Resolve to edit my Commerical. For the most part, it was very easy. However, I did find trouble when it came to getting my commercial at exactly 30 seconds. Due to this, I had to cut some footage and tweak my original idea. I estimated every clip to be 5 seconds and 6 scenes in total. With this in mind, every clip had to be trimmed. Speeding up some clips helped me keep most of them.       The most difficult task was the voiceover portion. I had to make sure that the voiceover was consistent throughout the entire commercial. I also had to make sure the product being advertised was appropriately presented. To ensure the flow, I recorded over the entire video, not on separate clips. With that, I could take complete control of the direction the commercial was going.

Filming for my commercial

Filming for my commercial was an interesting experience. I worked by myself for this project so everything came straight to my head. Initially, I wanted a simple tutorial type of commercial. However, my ideas changed once I started to research more about these types of commercials. After research, I then knew what I wanted.       On Saturday, the 31st I officially started the filming. I took one day to shoot and film everything and did so in about 15 takes. I had to make sure my lighting was perfect in every shot to make the commercial look professional. Also, I made are every angle showed only necessary items and not a crowded background. Strategically I filmed all my shots on my vanity at the peak of dawn where my window gets the perfect amount of natural lighting. This made my vanity shots look very uniform and soft.  Additionally, for certain takes that required both of my hand in the shot, I asked my Mom for assistance on holding the camera. For example, at a high angle sho
