My Creative critical reflection

1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represents social groups or issues?      My Product uses conventions through its editing.    Common conventions of pop music videos are retro these and bright lights. Throughout my editing, I added different effects and filters to bring this theme to life. My product represents the social groups of teens and pops music enthusiasts. The song I choose for my project is very new and is raved about throughout the teen social group. Also, as this song is of the pop music genre, those apart of that social group can identify common conventions from their other favorite music videos and feel familiar.   2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? My product engages with the audience by breaking the fourth wall. This when the actor in a film or in In this case a music video looks at the audience and acknowledges their existent. This h...

My Music Video

It's done! I am so happy that I finished this amazing project. I ran into some problems along the way but all in all, I am happy with the outcome. The only thing I am a little disappointed in is the quality of my video. It was all good until it came to upload my video onto Youtube. However, this is a learning experience to also keep the quality of any project at top priority.  This entire process took about 1 week if you don't count the days that I did nothing. I had a lot of fun with this and will 100% do it again if I have any free time. One way I think I could've improved was with the number of people in the music video. I originally planned for about four people to be in it but I ended up with one. But, you have to work with what you got. Luckily, I was able to film and edit with what I had and I am grateful for that. My favorite part of the film was the car shots. I can't really explain it but recording those shots was so intriguing. One of my favorite parts to e...

Editing for my Music Video

Image
The time has finally come. The time to get down to business and edit my music video. I recently found a great new editor available on iPhone called " Cap cut". It is amazing quality and was free.  I used a total of two apps for editing. Cap cut which was used to trim, add effects, and audio. Also, Prequel which I used for the saturated filter on my music video. First, I imported all my fottage onto my editor and the audio. All the footage was over a minute so I had to go in and trim some of it. Once I got the video down to one minute I went in and started adding the transitions. I made sure to only add transition when necessary so it wasn't overwhelming. Then, I added some effects. Such as glitches, VR tapes, and sparkles. Next, I exported the video and imported it into Prequel to add to the filter. I wanted the music video to seem and look retro so finding the perfect filter was crucial. Once I found the perfect one I exported and imported the video back into Capcut to...

Filming for my Music Video

Image
I started filming for my Music Video on November 21st. My friend who I used in the video arrived to set at around 3:00. I arrived at around 2:50. We didn’t start filming until 4:30. The actually filming took around about 20 minutes. I was surprised because I expected it to take about an hour. However, to my surprise we finished early. Once I got home I started editing right away. I didn’t edit much because I lost mojo. After that I spent the rest of my Thanksgiving break just resting and starting my first ever job! I made sure to record enough footage that I could work with. I even filmed a little extra that wasn’t on my storyboard. The majority follows my original plan though. I actually expected to not filming throughout my Thanksgiving break. However, plans change.  If I did wait to film I feel as if the outcome would have been different. Not in a good or bad way. Just different.  I am excited to finish my editing and have the music video complete. So far, this projec...

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
First Scene- This first scene common is just of the logo "7 Rings". This lets the audience know what song it is and starts to bring them into the already existing world.  Second Scene-  The second scene is of a black car pulling up. The car parks and stays for a while.  Third Scene- Next, the scene shows a person stepping out of the car. They look lost and out of place with the preexisting world. This introduces the main actor in the music video. Fourth Scene- This scene uses a close-up on the person's face to fully show the audience the person's expressions. Fifth Scene- Then, in this scene we see the person walking up to a door being very hesitant to put then opening it to walk in. This is an allusion is "Alice in Wonderland" when Alice faces many curious and confusing challenges. Sixth Scene-  Furthermore, we see the person starting to walk down a hallway. They're looking from side to side, up and down. The watchers see the person fully scanning the...

Planning for my music video

Props For my music video, I've decided to use a few different props. The first prop will be a car. Then I will use a big desk and a singular comfy roller chair. Costumes I will have multiple people in the music video. However, the main subject will two outfits. The first will be ordinary clothes such as some black leggings and a plain t-shirt. Next, there will be a quick change and they will then be in a bright pink crop top and jeans. Those in the background will wear outfits to complement the main subject. Such as jeans and a blacktop. The makeup will be natural as I want the main focus to be on the costumes. Schedule On 11/16/20, I will research the convention of my music video. On 11/17/20, I will establish the props, costumes, schedule, set, location, and a back plan. On 11/19/20, I will create a storyboard for my one-minute music video. On 11/20/20, I will start filming for my music video and recording the necessary shots. Set  I will use the hallway, office, and desk. Locati...

Research blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
I've decided to film my music video for the song "7 rings" by Ariana Grande. This song falls under the Pop genre of music. Some common conventions in this genre are fashionable/ stylish mainstream outfits, bright vibrant colors, and positive vibes. Pop music videos often follow a storyline from start to finish and have some sort of plot to them. Sterotipcally pop music videos contain people in their teens and have a youthful feeling. For example, a party or dance event. The costumes include a signature piece and style that isn't typically worn in day to day life. Such as a fluffy coat or metallic thigh-high boots Hair and makeup play a big role in pop music videos. The hair is usually in a trendy style and the makeup is dramatic and matte. Additionally, pop music videos are heavily edited. Creative transitions that connect each shot; ink, wipe, and certain effects. Also, inverted and two-sided screens are common editing effects.  Dance is heavily infused in pop musi...
